Tis indeed a wonderful day to be a Tarheel! Today the UNC basketball team kicked off their official season against the Penn Quakers as the perennial #1 team in the nation and poised for a run at a National championship. For most of the past decade Carolina fans have had to espouse time and time again that UNC is a basketball school due to the ineptitude of our football program. Well, it would seem that times they are a changing because as I type this the UNC football team is ranked #16 in the polls and is also poised to win their division in the ACC if they can win out in the remaining 3 games. Butch Davis has done a masterful job in rebuilding a meager football program into a formidable competitor. On this glorious day wherein I can lazily sit on my couch with my family and watch both Carolina basketball and football at the same time (with an expectation that they both should win), my only regret, if you can call it that, is that I do not have a spilt screen :). Who knows, at the end of their respected season UNC might just add a Football Divsional title, an ACC championship, and possibly even a Bowl victory as well as whatever prolific hardware the stacked basketball team might bring back to Chapel HIll. It also excites me as a dad that my children, at least most of the time, will sit and watch the Tarheels play in lieu of their usual preference for VeggieTales or 3-2-1 Penguins. All I can say is, I'm a Tarheel born, I'm a Tarheel bred.....
