The Silent Treatment

So I am sure that your parents told you that it was rude or inappropriate to give someone the silent treatment. You know, when you stick your lip out, turn your head and pretend that the person who has irritated you doesn't exist. I am not much for New Year's Resolutions, but I am always up for new strategies for dealing with my oh so verbal and feisty 3 year old. So, we are attempting to adopt the Silent Treatment as the new manner of redirecting Thad, interestingly enough, upon recommendation from my mom. (Hmmm, new strategy or ploy to make Carla talk less...?) Instead of launching into the pastor-like sermons with each infraction, we are simply picking him up, removing him from the center of attention, and placing him in a predetermined location. Sounds like a winner, right? No more bantering for 10 minutes or arguing about punishment. No time for anyone to get hot under the collar. Just a simple, oh so quiet 3 minutes, and life is grand. That is, unless you are Jason and me, lovers of talk. It is really tough for us to keep our mouths shut! You would think that after seeing the success of this tactic we would be quick studies. But no, not us! We continue to struggle with taming the tongue (no laughing friends! This is a serious matter!) I will continue to hold to my no resolutions position, however, I will be struggling with the best of them to make this thing work. So if you are the resolution type and hit a snag, just know you are not alone!

Happy New (quiet) Year!
